FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's hoops team won the second quarter, and were within two two points in the first and fourth, but it was not enough to squeak out the win against Montana State Billings as the Yellow Jackets grabbed a 74-65 win over Alaska.
MSUB jumped out to an 18-17 lead after the first quarter thanks to four made threes in the quarter, shooting 36% from deep. The Nanooks made two more baskets than the Yellow Jackets in the first, shooting 50% from the field, going 8-16. Alaska continued the hot shooting in the second, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 15-13 in the quarter, going 6-13 in the quarter while holding MSUB to just 25% shooting in the quarter. Alaska's defense and an Emma Wass jumper with 2:29 to go in the half saw the Alaska lead swell to seven. The Yellow Jackets would go on a 7-1 run to end the half cutting the Nanooks lead to 32-31 heading into the half.
Out of the break, MSUB responded again, hitting three- straight threes to take a 40-34 lead with 7:27 left in the quarter. A 4-0 Kayla Johnson run cut the Yellow Jacket lead to just two.
