Last Time Out
The Nanooks snapped a seven-game slide on Saturday, Jan. 27 on their home court. After falling to the No. 1-ranked Saint Martin's Saints on Jan. 25, the Nanooks turned around and grabbed a victory over the Western Oregon Wolves, 72-67, to grab their second GNAC win of the season. Alaska withstood a second-half comeback attempt by WOU after holding a 38-29 halftime lead.
Abdullahi Mohamed played the most minutes for the Nanooks, spending 35 minutes on the court. In the victory, the senior posted 17 points on 7-8 shooting from the free-throw line. He added five made field goals, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, dished a team-high seven assists, blocked two shots and had a steal.
Demarcus Hall-Scriven and
Tyriq Luke finished with 13 points each. Hall-Scriven added four assists and steals and grabbed two rebounds.
Nick Hopkins finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

- As a team, the Nanooks are second in the GNAC with 3.9 blocks per game. This total also ranks them 51st in the nation.
- They are third in the GNAC with 11.47 offensive rebounds per game, good for 91st in the nation.
- Abdullahi Mohamed is sixth in the GNAC with 16 blocks this season. His 1.07 blocks per game also ranks him third in the conference. He is second in the conference with 3.13 offensive rebounds per game, good for 29th in the nation.
- He is also third in both free throw attempts and makes with 103 attempts and 84 makes, good for an 81.6% clip from the line, good for fifth in the GNAC. His 15.5 points per game is fourth in the GNAC.
- Jaycson Bereal, Jr. currently leads the Nanooks in three-point percentage, shooting 40.6% from deep (13-32). He is shooting 49.5% from the field (54-109).
- TJ Doman has been efficient from the floor as well, shooting 59.3% from the floor in his bench role. He is 32-54 from the floor this year in 17 games.
- Doman and Bereal trail only Mohamed for the team lead in blocks. Mohamed has a team-high 16 while Bereal and Doman have 11 each.
- Demarcus Hall-Scriven leads the team with 17 steals; he's one of four Nanooks with 10+ steals as Trey Anderson follows with 14 and Doman and Bryan Nguyen follow with 12.
Rivalry Update
The Nanooks look to rebound after falling to the Seawolves at home on Jan. 6 earlier this season. Alaska Anchorage came to Fairbanks and grabbed an OT victory over the Nanooks, winning 64-58. Alaska is 2-2 against UAA dating back to the GNAC Championships during the 2021-22 season. Alaska's wins came in Lacey, Wash. during the GNAC Championships and on their home court on Jan. 28, 2023, an 89-79 victory.
Alaska is looking for it's first win at UAA since Feb. 22, 2003 when they beat the Seawolves 73-70.

Regional/National Rankings
The latest D2CSC West Region rankings have four GNAC teams in the top-10. Saint Martin's leads the way as the top-seed, receiving all 10 first-place votes for 60 points. They remain in the No. 1 spot despite dropping their second game of the season at UAA last Saturday. Montana State Billings is tied with Cal State San Bernardino at No. 4 as both teams check in with 37 points. Alaska Anchorage earned 12 points to come in at No. 9 and Central Washington was No. 10 with six points.
In the national polls, the Saints of SMU were the only GNAC team in the D2CSC men's basketball poll, at No. 4. In the NABC poll, the Saints were No. 7. Montana State Billings recieved one vote in the NABC poll that came out on Jan. 28.
