Nanooks Fall to Saint Martin’s

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks fell to Saint Martin's 105-71 on Saturday afternoon, dropping to 5-4, 0-2 GNAC.

How it Happened
Bobbi Clark got things going with an opening-possession layup to give the Nanooks an early lead. The Saints would score on their first three possessions, building a 7-2 lead in the first 1:38 of play. Emily Freeman would cut the deficit to three at the 7:10 mark after draining a three to make it an 11-8 score. However, a 9-0 SMU run saw its lead grow to 12 halfway through the first. Jayda Van Dyke notched five points over the remainder of the period, while Freeman knocked down another three, but Alaska ended the first 10 minutes down 31-22.

Reimers got the 'Nooks on the board by converting the and-one after being fouled on a layup. She got to the line again on the next possession, knocking them both down. However, Alaska still trailed by 35-27 2:46 into the second. Later in the quarter, Halle Waram would sink one from beyond the arc, while Van Dyke, Clark and Taylor Pilot all hit layups to close out the quarter, but Alaska still trailed 55-38 at the half after a Jada Travis buzzer-beater.

Miranda Lomax notched the first points of the third after draining a three off a Pilot steal. Freeman joined her in connecting from distance, hitting her third three of the game to make it a 62-46 score. Lomax added a layup later in the quarter, and the Nanooks would score four of their last six points of the third from the line, going 4-of-6 from the stripe during the stretch as SMU took a 75-54 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Anna Nevison put the 'Nooks on the board in the fourth with a three-pointer after four straight Saints points to open the period. However, Saint Martin's would score another four unanswered points to build an 83-57 advantage. A pair of Reimers free throws and a Van Dyke tip-in layup gave the Nanooks a 4-0 run of their own, but a Saints three-pointer put them back up by 25. Pilot would answer by converting a three-point play, and Clark notched two buckets to bring her point total to 12, but Saint Martin's would see out the game, taking the contest by a final of 105-71.
