FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks Nordic skiing teams opened their seasons at the brand new UAF Competition Ski Trails on Friday morning in the first day of the Nordic Cup vs. Alaska Anchorage.
The two sides competed in the 10k Freestyle Interval Start on day one of the Nordic Cup, with UAA holding a 51-second lead heading into the second day of competition. On the men's side, Ben Dohlby was the top finisher for the Nanooks, finishing second in 23:53.1. Gabriele Rigaudo followed with the fifth-fastest time with a 24:28.1, while Aidan Hay and Cole Flowers finished right behind him, crossing the line in 24:30.9 and 24:40.6, respectively. Philipp Moosmayer (25:13.7), Matyas Pavek (25:16.3), Josh Baurick (25:47.9) and Blake Hanley (26:06.3) rounded out the finishers for the Nanooks. The men ended the day with a top-three time of 1:12:52.1, which put them 48.5 seconds behind UAA.
On the women's side, Kendall Kramer led the way, finishing in 26:39.9. Tabitha Williams crossed the line next, recording a time of 27:55.5. Aila Berrigan was the third Nanook to finish, coming in at 30:43.4. Elsie Weiss (31:19.8) and Lucca Duke (4:30.3) were the final two finishers for the Nanooks. The women posted a top-three time of 1:25:18.8, putting them 2.5 seconds behind the Seawolves.
Both teams race once more in the freestyle mass start at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
