FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks men's basketball made it two-straight wins with an 85-84 win over Multnomah on Saturday, Nov. 23. With the win, the Nanooks are 2-3, 0-0 GNAC.
How it Happened
Multnomah jumped out to a 51-44 lead at halftime. Similar to night one against the Lions, the Nanooks used a second half push to grab the win down the stretch. In the first, the Nanooks shot well from the field, going 17-32 from the floor and 7-18 from deep. Their deficit stemmed from 10 made three's by Multnomah in the opening 20 minutes of play. Alaska jumped out to an early 8-3 lead using a
Jordan Gill three to grow their lead.
Jalai O'Keith added his own deep ball to make it 13-8 with 15:35 left to play. Alaska's lead reached eight with 12:30 to play on back-to-back
Chris Lee three's. The lead stood until the 32-32 mark when Multnomah connected on back-to-back three-pointers to take a 35-32 advantage. The 'Nooks stayed within striking distance until the Lions' lead reached 10 and eventually seven to end the half.Â
Out of the half Multnomah made it a 10-point deficit and maintained the lead for the first 10:12 of the second. At the 9:48 mark,
Chris Lee connected from deep. He then followed up with a free throw to give the Nanooks a 68-67 lead, their first since the 7:15 mark in the first. The Lions took the lead back until another Lee trey ball at the 5:03 mark making it 75-74 Alaska. Down the stretch, the two sides traded buckets. After an 81-81 tie with 1:52 left,
Isaiah Saams-Hoy connected from deep in a deja vu moment from a night ago. His three made it 84-81 with 1:18 left to play. Multnomah eventually pulled the game even at 84-84 but after a missed free throw and
Chris Lee jumper,
Ketan Sidhu was fouled on a rebound attempt putting him at the line with 1.0 left on the clock. He knocked down the first but missed the second. An MU timeout gave them one more look with 0.7 seconds remaining but a steal on the inbounds pass secured the win for Alaska.
