Late Surge Leads to Saturday Tie at Clarkson

POTSDAM, New York - The Nanooks hockey team used a late surge to force overtime and eventually earn a 3-3 tie at Clarkson. On the weekend, the Nanooks went 1-0-1. They are now 2-5-1 on the season.

How it Happened
Alaska fell behind 2-0 in the first. Clarkson grabbed the first goal from Ryan Bottrill 13:58 into the opening 20 minutes. Less than three minutes later, on the man-advantage, Ryan Richardson found the back of the net making it 2-0. The deficit for the Nanooks stood until 1:17 into the second.

Kyle Gaffney found the twine cutting the lead in half. Not only did it cut the Clarkson lead to 2-1, but it came on the power play, giving the Nanooks their first power-play goal of the season. Broten Sabo and Peyton Platter picked up the apples. The 2-1 score would carry into the third until Richardson found the back of the net again only 10 seconds into the third stanza. The 3-1 deficit quickly became one goal as the Nanooks answered right back. Matt Hubbarde intercepted a puck and had a look at goal right away. He buried the goal making it 3-2 Golden Knights. Chase Dafoe picked up the lone-assist on the goal. After another 11 minutes, the Nanooks capitalized and found the tie. Off of a faceoff win, Matt Rickard brought the puck deep into the attacking zone.

His centering attempt found the back of a skate and redirected into the net making it 3-3 12:16 into the third. Gaffney picked up his second point of the night with the assist. The two sides would remain tied for the final minutes. In the overtime period, Clarkson put one SOG while the Nanooks did not record a SOG. The game would officially end in a 3-3 tie.
