'Nooks Drop Game One at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Nanooks hockey team fell in the first of two games at Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 18. The loss drops the Nanooks to 0-5-0 to open up the 2024-25 season.

How It Happened
Notre Dame opened up the scoring in the first period. 12:48 into the opener Cole Knuble made it 1-0 Fighting Irish. In the first, Alaska was outshot 14-8 but they killed off the one UND power play. 5:41 into the second period, the Fighting Irish added a second goal; the game-winner was scored by Henry Nelson and made it 2-0 going into the final period of play.

Alaska would cut the lead in half on a Broten Sabo goal from the slot 5:01 into the third. After three shots by the Nanooks, Sabo found himself with the puck in the slot; he buried his shot, making it a 2-1 deficit.

Unfortunately, 1:51 later, Justin Janicke extended the UND lead back to two before Grant Silianoff capped the game off with Notre Dame's fourth goal.
