ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Nanooks women's basketball team dropped their road game at Central Washington this afternoon to fall to 2-15, 0-7 GNAC.
Central led by eight after the first quarter before taking a 31-16 lead at the halftime break. In the third, the Central lead grew before the Nanooks won the battle in the fourth, cutting it to 17. CWU picked up the win 64-47. In the first, the Nanooks got on the board first with an
Emma Wass layup. Their lead grew to 4-0 on a
Kayla Johnson jumper. The two sides traded baskets through the opening six minutes as an
Ellen Silva jumper tied the game at 10-10 with 3:52 remaining. CWU finished on an 8-0 run to take the 18-10 lead after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was low-scoring and the 'Nooks made it a four-point game in the opening three minutes, cutting the deficit to 18-14, but CWU responded, making it a 10-point game with 4:14 left in the half.
Tristian Martin cut it to eight before the Wildcats ran it to a 15-point lead at the break.Â
Out of the break, CWU used a strong third to grow their lead to more than 20. Martin connected on a three to pull the 'Nooks within 19 at the 6:58 mark. 19 was as close as the Nanooks got in the third.
In the fourth, Alaska slowly chipped away, pulling within 16 with 2:12 remaining as
Destiny Reimers scored. The Nanooks would not score again until with 25 seconds remaining on another Reimers bucket, making it a 64-47 final. Reimers led the way for Alaska, finishing the night with a dozen points on six made field goals. She added four rebounds and an assist.
Kayla Johnson posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. She added three assists and a steal.Â
The 'Nooks return home next week as Saint Martin's and Western Oregon come to town on Jan. 25 and 27.
