Alaska's season will unofficially begin with their annual Blue/Gold weekend at the Patty Ice Arena. This year, fans can join the 'Nooks in the Ice Arena on Friday, Sept. 22 and Saturday, Sept. 23 as they host their two-day intrasquad scrimmage. The fun at the Carlson will officially begin on Saturday, Sept. 30 when the Nanooks welcome the Vancouver Island University Mariners for their lone-exhibition game of the season.
Just one week later, the regular-season will officially kick off as the Denver Pioneers come to Fairbanks for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Alaska and Denver have faced off in each of the last four Nanooks seasons with Denver owning the previous seven meetings 1-5-1. The 'Nooks have found recent success, however, tying at Denver on Jan. 1, 2022 during the 2021-22 season before grabbing a 3-1 win this past season at Magness Arena on Jan. 6, 2023, their first-ever win on the road at Denver. The Pioneers and Nanooks are set to square-off on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8. It won't be until Nov. 3-4 when the 'Nooks return to home-ice for the first leg of the 2023-24 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup with the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. Alaska will look to make it 13-straight Cup wins against UAA after taking all six matchups in the 2022-23 season.
After another long break away from the Carlson Center, the Nanooks will host Augustana for their only December home games on Dec. 15-16 to wrap-up the 2023 portion of the schedule. These two teams will face for the first time in program history as Augustana begins their NCAA Division I run. A single-game against UAA on Jan. 13 will open 2024 before the 'Nooks finish their 2023-24 regular-season with three of their final four series' coming at home.
First, they'll play Long Island University on Feb. 16-17, 2024. They'll then welcome one of their most recent rivals to town, the Arizona State Sun Devils on Feb. 23-24, 2024 before finishing their regular-season with Stonehill on March 6-7 for a Wednesday/Thursday finale.
"Our home schedule will be very competitive and exciting for our fans." said head coach Erik Largen, "We will play a few times each month allowing for our fans to stay connected to our team and be able to cheer on this years group of student-athletes. We can't wait to see everyone at the Carlson Center!"
