FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey program will hit the road 11 times this season and will face new and old foes.
Alaska's first road test will come on Oct. 13-14 when they head to Houghton, Mich. to face former WCHA-opponent Michigan Tech. A year ago, Tech came to Fairbanks and grabbed a pair of wins over Alaska, the only losses on home-ice during the historic 2022-23 season for the blue and gold. A week later, the 'Nooks will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for a matchup with St. Cloud State at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This will be the first matchup with SCSU since the 2018-19 season when the Huskies grabbed two wins over the Nanooks in Fairbanks.
The Nanooks will head to a new opponent in the second week of November. On Nov. 10-11, the blue and gold will ship up to Boston, Mass. for a matchup with Stonehill, one of the newest Division I hockey programs. After Stonehill, the Nanooks will meet with another former WCHA-opponent in Northern Michigan on Nov. 17-18. A year ago, the two teams split a two-game series in Marquette, Mich. Two weeks later the 'Nooks will open December in Anchorage for two Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup games. Dec. 1-2 will see Fairbanks defend the cup on the road against the Seawolves at the Seawolf Sports Center. Following the holiday break, Alaska will be in Grand Rapids, Mich. for the 2023 installment of the Great Lakes Invitational. They'll play Michigan Tech, once again, on Dec. 28 before playing either Ferris State or Michigan State on Dec. 29 to close out the GLI.

2024 will begin with the Nanooks in Grand Forks, N.D. for a matchup with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. The Nanooks and UND have not faced-off since Oct. 20, 2012, a 2-1 win for the Nanooks in Fairbanks. The two teams are set to meet on Jan. 5-6, 2024 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Long Island and Arizona State are back on the schedule as away opponents for the 2023-24 season. The Nanooks will head to LIU for the third-straight season and will face the Sharks on Jan. 26-27, 2024 this upcoming year. On Feb. 3, 2024, the Nanooks will head to Anchorage for the final game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup. A week later the Nanooks will be in Tempe, Ariz. for a return to Mullett Arena on Feb. 9-10, 2024. Last season, in their first-ever games at Mullett, the Nanooks swept the Sun Devils 4-2, 4-2 in a two-game series on Feb. 24-25, 2023. Alaska's final road series will come on March 1-2, 2024 as they head to another new opponent. This time, they'll play Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. for the first time ever. Augustana, alongside Stonehill, is one of the newest NCAA Division I programs.
Head coach Erik Largen is excited for the amount of high quality opponents on the schedule this season and looks forward to continuing to grow the game nationwide, "Looking at our away schedule this season, we have many high quality opponents in some amazing venues. There is a great mix across leagues and geography. We are also continuing to invest in the growth of college hockey by traveling to a new program, Stonehill College."
