AUSTIN, Texas - Gavin Barnick, a member of the Alaska Nanooks rifle program, has been named to the 2022-23 First Team Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).

He becomes the first Nanooks student-athlete to be named to a CSC Academic All-American team since Tristan Sayre was named a 2020 CSC Third Team Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team member and is the first First Team selection since Michael Fehrenbach (skiing) and Jordan Wilson (women's basketball) were both named First Team selections in 2017. He's the first rifle athlete selected since Mats Eriksson and Ryan Anderson both were named to the First Team Men's At-Large in 2015.Â
Barnick, a business administration major, was the 2023 NCAA Rifle Championships Elite 90 Award recipient. He boasted a 3.98 GPA at the NCAA Championships and now holds a 3.91 GPA after the Spring 2023 semester. He was named a CRCA Scholastic All-American alongside earning CRCA Aggregate All-American Second Team honors. He averaged an 1181.750 in the aggregate scoring while posting an average of 593.583 in air rifle and 588.167 in smallbore. In smallbore he earned CRCA Smallbore All-American First Team honors and grabbed a CRCA Air Rifle All-American Honorable Mention nod.

This honor comes after Barnick was named to the CSC At-Large Academic All-District Team on May 25, 2023, joining fellow teammates Sára Karasová and Rylan Kissell on the All-District Team.Â
