ANCHORAGE -Â The Nanooks Nordic ski team wrapped up a great trip to Anchorage for the 2023 RMISA Regionals. They finished with a second-best Nordic team score of 320 points. The women's team scored the most in the women's Nordic standings with 182 and the men posted the third-most with 138. Overall, they finished sixth with 320 points.Â
Day two saw the Nanooks compete in the 20k classic at Government Peak outside of Anchorage. In the men's race, Mike Ophoff posted another podium-finish with a second-place finish. He grabbed 37 team points for Alaska with a finishing time of 58:32.4. He followed only Andreas Kirkeng of Denver, who won with a time of 58:15.7. Christopher Kalev just missed out on a top-five finish, placing sixth in the 20k classic with a time of 58:47.1. He earned the Nanooks 27 team points. The final Nanooks men's racer and scorer was Josh Baurick. Baurick took home a 31st-place finish and time of 1:04:29.0 for 13 team points.Â
The Nanooks men's team finished day two with 77 points, the third-most by Nordic teams.Â
On the women's side, Mariel Pulles also grabbed another podium-finish, taking second-place in the 20k classic with a time of 1:05:07.5 for 37 team points. Novie McCabe of Utah grabbed the win with a finishing time of 1:04:09.0.
Kendall Kramer joined Pulles in the top-five, finishing fifth with a time of 1:06:22.3 for 29 team points. Rosie Fordham was the final Nanooks skier to score team points; she finished 16th with a time of 1:09:05.1 for 16 points. Sarah Olson and Aila Berrigan rounded out the Nanooks racers with 25th and 27th-place finishes, respectively. Olson crossed the finish line in 1:13:39.4 and Berrigan powered to the finish line in 1:15:13.7.
Alaska finished second in Nordic women's team scores on day two. They posted 82 points in the classic race.Â
The Nanooks will now be off until the NCAA Ski Championships at Lake Placid, N.Y. on March 9 and 11.Â
