Nanooks Post Five Goals on LIU to Grab 5-3 Victory in Game One

LONG ISLAND, New York - The Nanooks hockey team scored five goals for the second-consecutive game and fourth time this season to improve to 16-9-2 on the season. Their 5-3 win at LIU was spearheaded by five goals by five different players and converted on 50% of their power plays in the Friday afternoon game.

Brady Risk got the scoring started bright and early for the Nanooks as the forward extended his point-streak to seven games. He tallied the first goal only 53 seconds into the opening period. Kyle Gaffney played the puck up the boards to Markuss Komuls and after a Komuls shot, Risk cut in front of the LIU net, tipping and redirecting the puck into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Nearly eight minutes later, while on the power play, LIU scored the equalizer. Austin Brimmer beat Matt Radomsky, tying the game at 1-1. Two minutes later, LIU struck again, this time to take the lead at 2-1. Noah Kane tallied the Sharks second goal of the night. Less than two minutes later, the Nanooks found an equalizer of their own. This time it was Anton Rubtsov on the power play.

Rubtsov played the puck to Payton Matsui behind the net before getting it back and finding Chase Dubois across the ice; after Dubois skated with it, he put the puck back across the ice for a Rubtsov one-timer and goal. The power-play tally came 12:17 into the first and ended the scoring in the first period. After the opening 20 minutes, Alaska was 1/2 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

6:28 into the second period Matt Koethe picked up the third goal of the night for Alaska. This was the 'Nooks second power-play goal of the night. Anton Rubtsov initially played the puck to T.J. Lloyd; the defenseman drove towards the right of the net before dishing a pass across the crease to a cutting Koethe who scored on a near empty-net. This goal gave the 'Nooks a 3-2 lead before Simon Falk grew that lead to 4-2 only three and a half minutes later. A.J. Macaulay played the puck near center ice, getting it to Brayden Nicholetts. Nicholetts brought the puck into the attacking zone and flipped a pass to the front of the net where S. Falk found enough to redirect it into the back of the net, making it a 4-2 Nanooks lead.

LIU struck again on the power play, this time it was Anthony Vincent. Cade Mason and Adam Goodsir were credited the assists. The Nanooks 4-3 lead stood through the end of the second and 19:05.5 into the third until T.J. Lloyd flipped an empty-netter in off the draw from Colin Doyle. The empty-net goal gave the 'Nooks a 5-3 lead and win.

In his 16th win of the season, Radomsky ended with 23 saves, including seven in the first, 10 in the second and six in the third. Alaska finished 2/4 on the power play and 4/6 on the penalty kill.
