Birnie Nets a Third Period Goal but the Nanooks Fall 3-1 on the Road at LIU

LONG ISLAND, New York - The Alaska Nanooks fell to the LIU Sharks on Saturday, Feb. 11. With the loss, the Nanooks fell to 16-10-2. They return home next weekend to face the Sharks for a two-game series at the Carlson Center.

Anthony Vincent got the scoring started only 6:43 into the first. This was his second goal of the weekend and made it 1-0 Sharks in the first period. Alaska went 0/2 on the power play in the first period but managed to kill LIU's lone power-play opportunity to keep it a 1-0 game after 20 minutes. In the second the Nanooks managed to kill the first two penalties but on the third LIU tallied their second goal of the game, making it 2-0 on a Noah Kane goal.

After entering the third down 2-0, the Nanooks were looking for another comeback. Braden Birnie made it a possibility with a goal 8:52 into the third, cutting the LIU lead in half at 2-1, but after emptying the net in the final two and a half minutes, Vincent tallied his second of the game with a near full-ice empty-net goal, making it a 3-1 final.

Alaska ended 0/4 on the power play and 4/5 on the penalty kill. Nanooks' netminder Matt Radomsky ended the day with 23 saves with five in the first, 14 in the second and four in the third.

These two teams meet again in Fairbanks next weekend on Feb. 17-18 at 7:07 p.m. both nights in the Carlson Center.
