ANCHORAGE - Alaska trails Alaska Anchorage by 12 seconds in the Nordic Cup standings after one day in Anchorage.
The two sides competed in a classic sprint on day one of the Besh Cup/Nordic Cup and the Seawolves held the advantage in both the men's side and the women's side after the first event. On the women's side,
Mariel Pulles led the way between the two sides with a finishing time of 4:02.50. Following her from UAA was Marlie Molinaro and Astrid Stav before
Kendall Kramer's final time of 4:17.18.
Luise Graef was the next Nanooks to finish, crossing the finish line at 4:30.40.
Tabitha Williams (4:34.61),
Rosie Fordham (4:38.85),
Abigail Haas (4:43.67) and
Aila Berrigan (4:45.03) rounded out the Alaska women's racers.
The top-three finishers for UAA finished in 12:42.81 while Alaska's top-three finished in 12:50.08, giving Anchorage nearly an eight second advantage.
On the men's side,
Christopher Kalev led the way with a finishing time of 3:29.35, leading the Alaska/UAA pack by over three seconds. Garrett Siever and Derek Deuling followed before
Mike Ophoff crossed with a 3:34.82. The next Nanooks racer to finish was
Josh Baurick, finishing in 3:44.79.
Aidan Hay (3:48.39),
Ben Dohlby (3:52.39) and
Max Beiergrohslein (4:11.18) were the final men's racers to finish for Alaska.
Both sides race again tomorrow in the freestyle mass start at 11:00 a.m.
