Fordham and Kramer Prepare for NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday Morning

JOPLIN, Mo. - Rosie Fordham and Kendall Kramer are a day out from their third-straight NCAA Cross Country Championships appearance. The duo qualified for the 2023 race with their first and sixth-place finishes at the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 4.

Last Time Out
Rosie Fordham and Kendall Kramer of the women's team will represent the Nanooks in Joplin, Mo. at the 2023 championships after both qualified at the 2023 NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by Western Oregon in Monmouth, Ore. Kramer not only qualified, but she also claimed first-place in the NCAA Regional race and with the win was named the NCAA DII West Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. The Nanooks have now gone back-to-back seasons with West Region Women's Athletes of the Year after Naomi Bailey took the crown at the 2022 NCAA West Regional. 

Fordham followed in sixth-place and through the individual qualifying process, was named one of four individual qualifiers out of the west region. Joining her from the west was Gianna Bomarito from Sonoma State and fellow GNAC runner, Cassidy Walchak-Sloan from Saint Martin's.

The Nanooks Department of Athletics has officially moved the location of their 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships viewing party.

Come out to the BP Design Theater on the campus of UAF at 7:00 a.m. for the 2023 NCAA DII Women's Championship race. With the early morning start, the Department of Athletics will provide coffee and donuts, alongside other small food options and drink choices. The viewing party is being moved away from the Patty Center to the BP Design Theater to seat more spectators and allow for easier viewing access. 

The BP Design Theater is located on the fourth floor of the Engineering Building on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.

  • This is the third-straight season these two have qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
  • Kramer posted two new personal-best times this season in the 5k and 6k categories. On Aug. 26 she posted a PR time of 18:14.0 in the Seawolf Throwdown.
  • On Nov. 4, Kramer posted a new PR in the 6k races with a 20:29.8, winning the NCAA West Regional race. 
  • Fordham also posted two personal-best times this season, also coming in the 5k and 6k. 
  • She posted a new 5k PR time of 18:10.5 at the Seawolf Throwdown and a new 6k PR time at the 2023 GNAC Championships with a 20:55.5 and a second-place finish.
Last Season's NCAA Championship
At the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Nanooks had Naomi Bailey, Rosie Fordham and Kendall Kramer at the Championships. Kramer broke the Nanooks' program-record with an eighth-place finish and time of 20:52.2 - she earned an All-American honor for her finish in Seattle. Rosie Fordham followed in 43rd-place, finishing in 21:27.1. Bailey was the third and final finisher a year ago for the Nanooks, taking 90th with a time of 21:57.2.

GNAC Finish
The Nanooks women's team finished a program-best third-place at the 2023 GNAC Championships. They tied their finish from the 2021 season and broke that season's point total of 92 with 86 this year. Kendall Kramer won her second-consecutive GNAC Championship and GNAC Womens' Runner of the Year award with a winning time of 20:46.2. Rosie Fordham took second, finishing 10 seconds behind with a finishing time of 20:55.5.
