Hockey Stays Away for Matchup with Northern Michigan

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of a sweep of the Stonehill Skyhawks on the road in Bridgewater, Mass. In game one, the Nanooks picked up a 3-1 victory. Caleb MacDonald tallied his first-career goal to open the scoring in game one. Anton Rubtsov added the game-winning goal and Jonny Sorenson put the game away with the third goal of the game. In game two, the Nanooks exploded for eight goals in their 8-1 win. Anton Rubtsov tallied goal number one before Jonny Sorenson scored the game-winner in the first. Xavier Jean-Louis tallied his first-career goal to make it 3-0 and Broten Sabo followed with his first-career goal to make it 4-0. Jean-Louis tallied goal five, Payton Matsui scored the sixth, Brady Risk scored the seventh and T.J. Lloyd scored the eighth goal in the win.

  • Pierce Charleson is 11th in the nation with his .722 goalie winning percentage. 
  • Braden Birnie, Cade Neilson and Israels are tied for sixth in the nation and in the Independent ranks with one short-handed goal each. 
Scout the Opponent
NMU is currently 3-6-1, 3-3-0 CCHA. They are riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping Lake Superior State at home. On Nov. 10, they beat the Lakers 6-4 before completing the sweep with a 4-3 victory on Nov. 11. Andrew Ghantous is leading the way for NMU in points and assists. He's tallied three goals, assisted on 10 and posted 13 points through 10 games played. Artem Shlaine follows with 11 points, tied with Josh Zinger. Shlaine's five goals is second on the team. Zinger has two goals and nine assists. Tanner Latsch leads the goal-scoring with seven through five games played. Shlaine is the mainstay in the circle for the Wildcats; he's won 129 faceoffs and lost 81, posting a winning percentage of .614.

Beni Halasz has played in nine of the 10 games for NMU this season. He's recorded a 2-5-1-0 record with a 4.00 GAA and .880 save percentage. Charlie Glockner has seen time in three games posting a 1-1-0-0 record with a 3.85 GAA and .851 save percentage. 

A Look at the Stats
Three Nanooks have 10+ points through 10 games. Brady Risk is leading the way with 14 points on five goals and nine helpers. He's recorded a pair of power-play goals and a .167 shot percentage. Anton Rubtsov follows with a dozen points on four goals and eight assists with a .211 shot percentage. He's tallied one power-play goal. Israels is the third Nanook in double-digits with 11 points on eight goals, a team-lead, and three assists. He's been the most consistent on shots, posting a .276 shooting percentage. He's got a team-high four power-play goals and a .572 win percentage in the facoff circle. 

Second is Best..?
The Nanooks have found most of their offensive success in the second period. They've tallied 20 goals in the middle stanza, scoring more than half of their season goals in the second. They've tallied nine goals in the first and 10 in the third. They've scored 39 goals to their opponents 28 through 10 games. 

Old WCHA Foe
The Nanooks and Wildcats used to share the WCHA as a home. They've now played two series since the creation of the new CCHA in 2021-22. Last season, the two sides split a series in Marquette as the Nanooks won game one 2-1 but fell in game two 3-2.
