Nanooks Women's Basketball Heads to Utah for Three Games at Southern Utah and Westminster

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team takes to Utah for a three-game week at Southern Utah and Westminster College.

Where to Watch
The 'Nooks will be on ESPN+ for their matchup with the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. For both Westminster games, the action will be carried by the RMAC Network.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks fell in their two games at Biola on Nov. 10-11. In game one, they played Biola, the host-school, and fell 73-58. Alaska had a strong three quarters but BU used a big second-quarter to pull away for the victory. On night two, the Nanooks played Concordia University Irivine but CUI had a strong first-half, holding off a strong second-half from the 'Nooks for a 70-53 win.

  • This is the first-ever matchup between Southern Utah and the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team. 
  • SUU is an NCAA Division I team that plays in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
  • This is the first Division I opponent the Nanooks have played since they welcomed the Oregon Ducks to Fairbanks on Nov. 6, 2018 (L, 115-36).
  • Through five games, Destiny Reimers leads the 'Nooks with 58 points (11.6/game) and 15 assists. She's tied with Ellen Silva for the team-lead in blocks with three. 
  • Emma Wass leads the Nanooks with 45 rebounds and 9.0 rebounds per game. Ellen Silva follows with 7.8 rebounds per game, she has a team-high 12 offensive rebounds while Wass' 38 defensive boards leads Alaska. 
  • Three Nanooks have four steals this season, leading the way; Kayla Johnson, Ellen Silva and Emma Wass all have four. 
  • As a team, the Nanooks are averaging 41.8 rebounds per game, they have a +3.0 rebounding margin as their opponents are averaging 38.8 rebounds.
Grabbing Boards
Emma Wass is third and Ellen Silva is fifth in the NCAA DII rankings in total rebounds. Wass has 45 rebounds on the year and is also second in the GNAC while Silva has 39 rebounds this season and is third in the GNAC. As a team, the Nanooks are 75th in NCAA DII for rebounds per game. They are 45th in the nation for defensive rebounds per game. 

Looking Ahead
This is the Nanooks' final road-trip before they open up their home-schedule. Following SUU and two games at Westminster, the Nanooks come home and host the 2023 Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational. This season Cal State San Bernardino, Covenant College and Multnomah come to Fairbanks. Multnomah and Covenant play game one on Nov. 24 before Alaska faces CSUSB at 3:15 p.m. in their home-opener. 

Day two will feature CSUSB vs. Multnomah and Alaska playing Covenant at 1:15 p.m.

DII Canadian All-Tournament Team
Emma McKenney was named to the DII Canadian Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, Nov. 7. McKenney posted seven points in game one, nine in game two and 15 in game three to lead the Nanooks.
