NAMPA, Idaho - The Nanooks volleyball team grabbed a four-set win at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 11. The win improved them to 14-17, 7-10 GNAC as they head into their final game of the season next week.
Northwest Nazarene grabbed the opening set 25-14 to take a 1-0 advantage on the 'Nooks, but after a grueling set two victory got Alaska on the board, the rest was smooth sailing. In set two, Alaska outlasted NNU 32-30 before grabbing a 25-20 victory in set three and 25-12 in the fourth. NNU outhit the Nanooks 15-10 in kills and .462% to the 'Nooks .194%. In the second, both sides tallied 20+ kills as NNU posted 20 with a .278 hit percentage while the Nanooks had 21 with a .340 hit percentage. Alaska had a chance to close out the set as they held on to a 24-22 lead but NNU stormed back to tie it. They also had a few looks at closing out the set but the Nanooks withstood their run and pushed back. After a 30-30 tie, an NNU service error and
Ella Bines kill put the set away making it 1-1.
In the third, both offense slowed down after the long second. Alaska managed a .116 swing percentage and 11 kills with only six errors while NNU had 10 kills and 10 errors for a .000 hit percentage. Alaska ran away with the third and took a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 win. The fourth was a big put-away set for the Nanooks as they defeated the Nighthawks 25-12 and picked up the 3-1 victory.
Karli Nielson posted a team-high 17 kills with seven digs, three blocks and an ace.
Cynphany Henderson had a huge day with a 22-assist, 19-dig double-double.
Lily Stewart had 11 kills with a hitting percentage of .440 and
Ella Bines added 10 kills.
Ainsley Smith added 19 assists and seven digs in the victory.
