ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team ends their 2023 regular-season with a 14-18, 7-11 GNAC record.
The Nanooks ended their 2023 campaign at Alaska Anchorage and fell to the Seawolves in four sets. The Nanooks won the opening set 25-19 before UAA grabbed the next three; 25-22, 25-21, 25-15. In the first, the Nanooks capitalized on 12 kills to the Seawolves' nine. Alaska surrendered more errors but swung more efficiently than UAA as they outhit Anchorage .231 to .172. In the second, the Nanooks posted four more kills than UAA but their 11 errors to Anchorage's five played the difference as they swung only .042. The Seawolves tied the sets up at 1-1 before their offense got going in sets three and four.
In the third, both sides had 14 kills but eight errors by the 'Nooks and four by the Seawolves allowed UAA to run away late in the set with the win. Alaska held a 20-18 lead late before UAA rallied off seven of the final eight points to take the 25-21 win. In the fourth, UAA grabbed the lead at 7-6 and never looked back as their offensive attack overtook the 'Nooks. UAA swung .586 with 18 kills and only one error. The 'Nooks posted a solid offensive set as well with 12 kills and three errors, but the Seawolves quickly grew their lead to eight at 17-9 and then won the final set by 10 at 25-15.
Karli Nielson posted a double-double in the season-finale as she led the 'Nooks offensively with 12 kills and added 11 digs.
Ella Bines joined Nielson in double-digit kills with 10 kills and a .200 hit percentage.
Kinley Erickson,
Cynphany Henderson and
Ainsley Smith all had 10 digs. Both Henderson and Smith had double-doubles as well with Henderson posting a 21-assist, 10-dig night and Smith going 15-assist, 10-dig.
