BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - It took the Nanooks a period to break the ice, but after doing so, they skated away with a 3-1 victory at Stonehill on Friday, Nov. 10, their fourth-straight victory, helping them improve to 5-3-1 this season.
Despite 13 shots-on-goal in the first period from Alaska, the Nanooks and Skyhawks skated to a 0-0 tie after the opening 20 minutes. The first goal of the game came 5:44 into the middle stanza when rookie defenseman
Caleb MacDonald slotted home his first-career goal to make it 1-0 Nanooks. The blue-liner found himself in the slot and
T.J. Lloyd hit the slashing skater.
Chase Dubois earned the secondary assist on the defenseman's first goal. The 1-0 lead stood through the remainder of the period.
10:00 into the third, Frank Ireland beat Nanooks netminder
Pierce Charleson to tie the game up at 1-1. Thankfully for the Nanooks, it took only 88 seconds for them to get the lead back. After a loose puck was played out front of the Skyhawks net,
Anton Rubtsov found an opening and scored the game-winner, making it 2-1 Nanooks 11:28 into the third. 3:20 later, while on the power play,
Jonny Sorenson tallied the third and final goal of the night for the Nanooks. Alaska ended the night 1/4 on the power play and they killed both power-play opportunities Stonehill had.
Charleson ended the night with 14 saves and the Nanooks ended the night with a season-high 43 shots-on-goal.
These two teams do battle one more time near Boston tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. AKST.
