11 Nanooks Earn GNAC All-Academic Honor; Ophoff Earns Rare Fourth Honor

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Nanooks cross country teams had 11 representatives on yesterday's All-GNAC Academic Team release. A total of 95 runners earned the honor conference wide.

The Academic All-GNAC list, presented by Barnes & Noble College, is awarded to student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, who are in their second season competing for their team and must have competed on the course during the 2023 campaign. 

Mike Ophoff, a fifth-year senior for the Nanooks men's team, earned a rare honor alongside Western Washington's Andrew Oslin. The pair earned their fourth GNAC All-Academic honor. Joining Ophoff from the men's team were three others; Nolan Earnest (third-time), who is a Film/Performing Arts major and who has maintained a 3.94 GPA in his time with the Nanooks. Koen Ross earned his second honor from the GNAC as the Electrical Engineering major has maintained a 3.59 GPA in his years with Alaska. Finally, Ryan Owens earned his first GNAC All-Academic honor. The sophomore, Chemistry major from Palmer has maintained a 3.74 GPA in his first two years with Alaska. 

On the women's side, seven runner earned the All-Academic honor from the GNAC. Kendall Kramer and Mariel Pulles both earned their third honor. Kramer, a junior from Fairbanks, has maintained a 3.83 GPA while studying Psychology with the Nanooks. Pulles, a Security and Disaster Management major, has also maintained a 3.83 GPA in her time with Alaska. Three 'Nooks earned their second-career GNAC All-Academic nod as Naomi Bailey, Rosie Fordham and Delainey Zock were named to the team. Bailey, a junior from Fairbanks, has maintained a 3.85 GPA in her studies as a Biological Sciences major. Fordham, a junior from Sydney, Australia, has held a 3.65 GPA as a Mathematics major and Zock, a junior from Anchorage, has maintained a 3.96 GPA in her studies of Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Sarah Baum and Teegan Silva rounded out the list of Nanooks on the All-Academic squad with their first Academic All-GNAC honors. 

Baum, a junior from Greensboro, N.C. has held a 3.60 GPA while studying Wildlife Biology and Conservation while Silva, a sophomore from Chelan, Wash., has maintained a 3.71 GPA in Geoscience. 

The Nanooks continue their season on Friday, Oct. 6 at the San Francisco State Invite at the Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadow.
