BILLINGS, Mont. - The Nanooks volleyball team extended their winning-streak to four matches on Thursday, Oct. 26. They used 45 kills between
Ella Bines,
Karli Nielson and
Lily Stewart to secure the win over the Yellow Jackets of Montana State Billings.
The Nanooks were on fire offensively as they posted 59 kills in four sets for an average team total of 14.75 kills per set. Alaska dropped the first set 25-22 but rebounded with a huge 25-13 set two win, a 25-17 set three win and a final set win of 25-21 to take the victory 3-1. In the first, the Nanooks outhit MSUB 15-10 in kills and .235-.219 in hitting percentage, but the Yellow Jackets rallied off seven-straight points to end the set to comeback from a 22-19 deficit and win it 25-22.
Alaska responded in big fashion. They posted a 12-point victory in the second set behind a 16-kill set and a .297 hitting percentage. They held MSUB to seven kills and a negative hitting percentage. That trend continued into the third set as the 'Nooks posted a match-best .303 hit percentage and had 14 kills in the third. They held MSUB under 10 kills again, this time nine, and held them to a 0.0 hitting percentage, forcing nine errors. Alaska won the third 25-17. The fourth saw MSUB battle back a bit but the Nanooks managed to hold them off and win the set and match. The 'Nooks posted another strong set offensively with 14 kills and a .250 hitting percentage while keeping MSUB to 11 and a .086 hit percentage. On the night, the Nanooks posted 59 kills to MSUB's 37. The Nanooks had both sides of the net covered as they also added 12 total team blocks.
Josie Jansen continued her reign of terror at the net with eight total blocks.
Lily Stewart added six to go along with her 14 kills and
Ella Bines posted four with her 14 kills.
Karli Nielson led the way with 17 kills and had a double-double with a game-high 14 digs.
Cynphany Henderson joined Nielson with a double-double on 21 assists and 11 digs.
Ainsley Smith led the distribution with 23 assists.
Kinley Erickson also joined with 11.
The Nanooks travel back to Seattle, Wash. for a matchup with nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. AKST.
