Falcons Snap Nanooks' Four-Game Streak in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. - The #19-ranked Seattle Pacific Falcons snapped the 'Nooks four-game winning streak in four sets on Saturday, Oct. 28. The four-set loss drops the Nanooks to 13-14, 6-7 GNAC.

Alaska grabbed a first-set win 25-20 before SPU won 25-20, 25-19, 25-13 to end the match after four. In the first, the Nanooks had a strong start offensively, posting 16 kills and swinging at a .294% clip. They held SPU to 11 kills, despite the Falcons also hitting at a strong percentage of .258. Despite a strong offensive performance in the second, the Falcons grabbed the set two win behind 16 kills. Alaska still managed 13 kills and only surrendered five errors but they unfortunately never had a lead nor a tie in the second set. In the third, 10 errors spoiled the set for the Nanooks as they outhit the Falcons 11-10 in kills but their 10 kills to SPU's three played a major part in SPU taking a 25-19 set win to make it 2-1 SPU.

The third set was a big offensive outburst by SPU as they posted 14 kills and only one error, swinging .650 as a team and walking away with a 25-13 set win to make it a 3-1 final. The Nanooks hit .167 and posted 10 kills but the SPU offense was too much. Both sides ended the night with 50 kills but the SPU defense was strong with 14 team blocks to the Nanooks' six. Alaska out-dug the Falcons 49-43 but SPU also doubled-up the 'Nooks on service aces, posting a dozen to the Nanooks' six.

Ella Bines, Kristina Head and Karli Nielson all hit double-digit kills as Bines led the way with 11. Head and Nielson followed with 10 each. Ainsley Smith dished out 24 assists while Cynphany Henderson followed with 15. Karli Nielson ended the day with another double-double as she led the team with 15 digs. Josie Jansen had a strong day at the net, ending the game with five blocks.

Alaska returns home next week as Saint Martin's and Western Oregon come to Fairbanks for the final two home matches of the season.
