ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Nanooks cross country teams competed at the Seawolf Throwdown in Anchorage on Saturday, Sept. 3. This was their second race of the season after hosting UAA a week ago for the Blue/Gold Meet.
The women's team grabbed the win 23-32, as they were led by sophomore Kendall Kramer, who won her second-consecutive race to open the season. In the 6k race, Kramer raced to a time of 22:17, winning by two seconds over fellow Nanook, Rosie Fordham. Fordham took second-place with a time of 22:19. Following close behind for third-place was Naomi Bailey, racing in her first race of the season. She crossed the line in 22:23. UAA took fourth, fifth and sixth before Delainey Zock took seventh place, finishing in 26:03. Abigail Haas finished the scoring for the Nanooks as the freshman took 10th-place, finishing in 26:32.
Over on the men's side, the Nanooks fell to UAA 37-18. Koen Ross, once again, led the Nanooks on the trail, taking sixth-place with an 8k time of 28:26. Josh Baurick was the next Nanook to finish the race, taking eighth with a time of 29:19, taking the spot just in front of Ryan Owens. Owens crossed the finish line in 29:23.
Ben Pilon and Jack Cater finished the race for the Nanooks, placing 12th and 13th with times of 30:21 and 31:41, respectively.Â
The Nanooks now have a month off before their next race on Oct. 7 at Montana State Billings.Â
