Nanooks Men's Basketball Adds Jaycson Bereal, Jr. to 2022-23 Roster

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team has officially announced the signing of Jaycson Bereal, Jr., a wing out of Tulsa, Okla. Bereal will join the Nanooks 2022-23 roster as a junior and stands at 6'7", 212 lbs.

"Jaycson is going to be a great addition to the class of 2022." Said head coach Greg Sparling, "He is experienced and had success at each of his stops along the way.  His coaches from Boise State, Johnson County and most recent San Jose City College have done great work developing Jaycson. Coach Aye at San Jose City did a fabulous job with Jaycson and thinks he will continue to grow. Jaycson does whatever it takes to contribute to winning, that has shown in his past programs on winning teams. He provides great athleticism and ability to score at all three levels, shooting the 3, mid range, and finishing at the rim. Off the court, he is a polite and fun young man to be around. Our staff here at Alaska is looking forward to helping this young man continue to develop on and off the court."

Bereal joins the Nanooks after playing the 2021-22 season with San Jose City College. There, he played in 29 games, starting 13 of them and averaging 10.4 points per game. He shot 47.7% from the floor and 67.3% from the free-throw line. Bereal had a strong year on the glass, grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game, including 4.1 defensive and 1.4 offensive rebounds per game. There he played in 22 games, starting in all while averaging 13.5 points per game. He shot 53% from the field, 36.4% from three and 56.9% from the free-throw line while posting 6.8 boards, 1.8 assists, 1.1 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.

He also spent the 2019-20 season with Odessa College after graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla. in 2018 and initially signing with Boise State. During his high school senior season, he averaged 14.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game while leading the Hornets basketball team to a 20-7 record and the Oklahoma Class 5A state final.
