Nanooks Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award Alongside Honor Roll Award

Alaska was one of five GNAC schools to be represented on AVCA list.

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team was named an AVCA Team Academic Award winner on Monday, July 18. The 'Nooks joined four other GNAC institutions on the list and were named one of the 147 NCAA Division II programs to earn the 2022 United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

"I am proud of how hard these women work to excel in the classroom!" said head coach Brian Scott, "It is not easy to be a student-athlete. These women spend hours and hours of work each week in the weight room, on the court, and traveling. Even with this heavy workload they make time to excel in their studies. They are great examples of how being disciplined in their sport can help them excel in the classroom and vice versa. They are great representatives of the University and their community!"

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The Nanooks finished the academic year with a 3.71 GPA and earned this honor for the fourth-straight year. Thanks to their academic success, the Nanooks volleyball team was also one of 30 teams named to the Team Academic Award Honor Roll for being among the top 20 percent of team GPAs in Division II.
