FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team and head coach Erik Largen have announced their 2022-23 season schedule. The Nanooks will play a 34-game season that includes six home series and a home-and-home matchup with Alaska Anchorage and the return of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.
"We are excited about having another strong schedule this season." said coach Largen, "We can't wait to get started with 3 out of our first 4 weekends at home at the Carlson Center. This season sees renewed and new rivals with the Governors Cup back in place and playing a new team in Lindenwood. Fans should be excited for the 2022-2023 season."
The Nanooks will kick off their preseason on Sept. 17, 2022 with their annual Blue/Gold Scrimmage. This year, the festivities will return to the Patty Ice Arena on the UAF campus. A week later on Sept. 24, 2022, the Nanooks will welcome the Simon Fraser University hockey team for a preseason exhibition at the Carlson Center. Both nights are scheduled for 7:07 p.m. puck drops.Â
Alaska's 2022-23 regular-season openers will be at home on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1-2, 2022 as they welcome the AIC Yellow Jackets to Fairbanks for the first time since Oct. 16, 2015, a 7-2 victory for the 'Nooks. Following the American International College's visit to the 49th state, the Nanooks will take to the road for a two-game weekend at St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. on Oct. 7-8, 2022. Alaska will return home for a Thursday/Friday matchup with Michigan Tech on Oct. 13-14 before hitting the road for four-consecutive road series'. First they'll head to Omaha for a two-game series at Baxter Arena on Oct. 21-23 before heading to Marquette, Mich. for a matchup with former WCHA-foe, Northern Michigan, on Oct. 28-29. Following a pair of bye weeks, the Nanooks will head to Troy, N.Y. for a matchup with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Nov. 18-19 and Penn State on Nov. 22-23. This will be the Nanooks' first trip to RPI since Nov. 28, 1986, a 5-4 Alaska win in their first-ever matchup.Â
As for Penn State, this will be the Nanooks' first time back at University Park, Penn. since the 2019-20 season that ended in a series-split, including a 4-0 win on Oct. 18, 2019. The Nanooks have another bye weekend Dec. 2-3 before coming home.
On Dec. 9-10, the Alaska rivalry will be reborn. Over two and a half years after their last matchup, the Nanooks and Alaska Anchorage Seawolves will meet in the Carlson Center, kick-starting the 2022-23 Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup. The two teams will meet the following weekend on Dec. 16-17 in Anchorage for the second leg of the rivalry.Â
Following the holiday break, the Nanooks will end 2022 on the road and open up 2023 on the road. First they'll head to South Bend, Ind. for a New Years matchup with Notre Dame at the Compton Family Arena. The two teams will meet on Dec. 31/Jan. 1. The two teams met during the 2016-17 season on the same dates and will give the Nanooks back-to-back New Years Eve/Day games after spending 2021-22 in Denver. The Pioneers will welcome the Nanooks a week later on Jan. 6-7, 2023 at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo. for the second-straight season.Â
After Penn State and Denver, the Nanooks will go on another two-week break until Jan. 27-28, 2023 when they play UAA in a home-and-home series. They'll fly to Anchorage for the Jan. 27 leg before welcoming the Seawolves at the Carlson Center on Jan. 28, 2023.
The next weekend, Arizona State will return to Alaska for a matchup at the Carlson Center before the Nanooks pack up and head east to Long Island for a matchup with the LIU Sharks on Feb. 10-11, 2023. LIU will make a return trip to Alaska the following weekend, playing at the Carlson Center on Feb. 17-18, 2023. The Nanooks will hit the road one last time on Feb. 24-25, 2023 as they hit Tempe, Ariz. for a matchup with the Sun Devils in their new venue.Â
March 3-4, 2023 will end the regular-season for the Nanooks as they'll celebrate their seniors against new DI opponent, Lindenwood.

Season-Ticket Renewals
With the release of the Nanooks hockey schedule, season-ticket renewals will be sent out to all 2021-22 hockey season-ticket holders. Following the renewal time, season tickets will open to the public on Friday, May 27.
