FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team battled ASU to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Carlson Center.
The Nanooks got on the board first, scoring 5:36 into the first on a
Roberts Kalkis shot from the point. After
Harrison Israels found
Jordan Muzzillo, he then found Kalkis along the blueline. Kalkis used a screen in front of the net by
Harrison Israels and beat Arizona State netminder Ben Kraws to make it 1-0 Nanooks.
ASU found the equalizer 12:49 into the second period when Colin Theisen found a loose puck in front of the net off of a Jack Judson shot. Josh Doan found Judson, who then put the puck on net. After bouncing around in the crease, Theisen found the back of the net. The tie lasted through the third period, leading to the second-consecutive overtime for the two teams. In the overtime period, the Nanooks managed only one shot-on-goal while
Gustavs Davis Grigals made five, keeping the Nanooks alive while battling a late-game power-play.
Grigals ended the night with 34 saves.
The Nanooks will wrap up their season next weekend at home against Long Island on March 4-5.
