Ski Heads to Colorado for RMISA Championships/NCAA Qualifiers

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – The Alaska Nanooks ski team is at the University of Colorado for the 2022 NCAA Qualifiers.

Last Time Out – Besh Cup
On day one of the Besh Cup at Birch Hill the Nanooks had nine racers participate.
 
In the U16 and Older women's 5k, Kendall Kramer was the high-finisher, taking third-place with a time of 14:56.6. Following in 11th was Rosie Fordham who posted a 15:54.3. Rya Berrigan took 28th, posting a time of 17:14.4. 
 
The final two women's racers were Sarah Olson and Aila Berrigan. Olson took 34th overall with a time of 17:45.9. Berrigan wrapped up the 'Nooks finishers with a 38th place finish with a time of 17:53.0. On the men's side, they raced a 10k for the U18 and older men's race. Christopher Kalev was the top men's finisher with a 24th-place finish on a time of 27:54.6. Mike Ophoff finished close behind in 26th with a time of 28:28.4.
 
Lukash Platil finished in 38th with a time of 29:57.4, Patrick Marbacher took 46th in 31:00.0 and Joe Davies did not start. 
 
Quick Hitters
  • The Nanooks currently sit in seventh-place for overall standings. In Nordic standings, they are in fifth-place with 996 team points. In the men's standings, they remain in fifth with 563.5 points. In women's they're third with 547 points. 
  • Mike Ophoff is the top-Nanook in the men's classical chase for the RMISA MVP. He's tallied 85 points, tying him with Espen Persen of UAA in fifth-place.
  • He also leads the way in the men's freestyle, coming in at #12 with 67 points this season. 
  • On the women's side, Kendall Kramer is fourth in the RMISA in the women's classic MVP race, coming in with 95 points on the season. Her most points came at the Montana State classic where she earned 27 points.
  • Kramer is second in the freestyle MVP chase, posting 116 points with 37 coming at the home-race the Nanooks hosted in early February. She gained 37 points and 34 points after. 
  • The Nanooks women's team has all three podium appearances for Alaska this season.
