FAIRBANKS – On day one of the Alaska Nanook Invitational, hosted at Birch Hill, the Nanooks wrapped up in fourth-place with 125 team points. They trail Denver (150), Colorado (170.5) and Utah (185).
On day one, the six teams raced in a 5k classical. The women's side raced first with Sydney Palmer-Leger of Utah taking first with a time of 15:48.2.
Kendall Kramer was the top-finisher for the Nanooks women's team, taking ninth-place with a time of 16:41.8 and earning 22 points for the 'Nooks. Close behind in 15
th-place was
Rosie Fordham. The fellow freshmen pushed across the finish line with a time of 17:25.1 for 17 team points.
Rya Berrigan was the final scoring racer for Alaska, taking home 13 points with a 27
th-place finish and time of 18:26.7.
Sarah Olson and
Aila Berrigan finished just behind A. Berrigan, taking 28
th and 29
th-place, respectively.
On the men's side, another Denver Pioneer took first. Andreas Kirkeng won the 5k classical race with a time of 13:22.5.
Joe Davies was the closest 'Nook to the top-finisher, taking fifth-place on a time of 13:46.2. His finish grabbed the team 29 points.
Christopher Kalev joined Davies in the top-10, taking eighth-place and a time of 13:48.8.
Mike Ophoff was the final scoring Nanook and made it three top-10 finishers for Alaska as he took 10
th-place with a time of 13:52.0.
Lukash Platil and
Patrick Marbacher were the final finishers for the Nanooks taking 27
th on a time of 14:52.5 and 33
rd on a time of 16:12.2, respectively.
Heading into the final day of the Nanook Invitational, the men's team has 73 points and is in fourth in the men's standings while the women's team ended day one with 52 points, entering day two in sixth in the women's standings.
