FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team will hold on to the Nordic Cup for a second-straight season after knocking-off the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves 188:39.08 total time to 192:20.07.
After cold forecasts pushed day one to Thursday, Nov. 24, the Nanooks ran out to nearly a three and a half minute lead, posting a combined day one time of 158:22.00 while UAA posted day one times of 161:48.00.
Kendall Kramer finished in first in the women's race with a time of 27:00.05.
Mariel Pulles pushed through the line in second, finishing in 27:44.97. Tuva Bygrave finished in third for UAA, following behind Pulles by just under four seconds with a finishing time of 27:48.19. Astrid Stav followed her teammate with a time of 28:09.53 for a fourth-place finish.
Rosie Fordham,
Aila Berrigan,
Abigail Haas and
Sarah Olson round out fifth through eighth for the women's 10k. Fordham took fifth with a time of 30:11.17, Berrigan took sixth with a time of 30:22.32, Haas took seventh with a time of 30:38.54 and Olson rounded out the Nanooks finishers with a time of 31:49.48. Tuva Granøien took ninth, rounding out the field with a time of 32:41.77.
In the men's race,
Mike Ophoff of Alaska led the way with a first-place time of 24:02.09, beating the second-place finisher from UAA by over four seconds. Magnus Norøy followed with a time of 24:06.56 and Sigurd Rønning followed in third with a time of 24:21.71.
Philipp Moosmayer took fourth-place and was the second Nanook finisher with a time of 24:25.53. Matt Seline of UAA followed in fifth with a time of 24:40.73.
Christopher Kalev,
Josh Baurick and
Max Beiergrohslein rounded out six through eighth. Kalev took sixth with a time of 24:58.83, Baurick took seventh with a time of 27:46.76 and Beiergrohslein took eighth with a time of 30:21.53.
On day two, the two teams raced in a 5k. On the women's side, Kramer led the way again, this time posting a 13:20.06. Stav and Bygrave followed in second and third posting times of 13:42.17 and 13:42.82. Pulles followed close behind with a time of 13:43.27. Fordham took fifth again, this time posting a time of 14:40.08. Haas finished next with a time of 14:54.17, Berrigan took seventh with a time of 14:55.45, Olson took eighth with a time of 14:56.23 and Granøien took ninth, finishing in 15:57.83.
In the men's race, Ophoff took first again, finishing the men's race first with a time of 12:08.35. Rønning followed close behind with a 2:08.88 finishing time. Matt Seline took third with 12:09.59 and Norøy took fourth with times of 12:08.88. Kalev finished next with a time of 12:10.53 and was followed by Moosmayer, finishing with a time of 12:11.90.
Josh Baurick took seventh with a 13:36.69 finishing time and Beiergrohslein took eighth with a time of 14:53.23.
The Nanooks go into break before opening their season in early January 2023.
