Melissa Nachtigal Joins Nanooks Athletics as Administrative Assistant

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks and Brock Anundson, the Director of Athletics, have announced the hiring of Melissa Nachtigal. Nachtigal joins the Nanooks as the Athletics Administrative Assistant.

"We are thrilled to have Melissa join the Alaska Nanook Athletics Administrative Team." Said Anundson, "She has been a strong ambassador for the program since she began with us this past year in a part-time role. Melissa brings a positive attitude, a welcoming smile, and is always willing to go above and beyond. She will be a welcomed addition to our admin team and we could not be more excited to officially bring her experience to the front office."

Nachtigal's time with the Nanooks began a year ago, as a part-time employee. She worked game days, ticketing for home events, assisting in marketing, ticketing and academic record keeping and worked the front desk of the Patty Center. Before Alaska, Nachtigal spent 2019-20 as a Clinical Assistant at Fort Wayne Orthopedics in Fort Wayne, Ind. She focused on patient intake, triage, vitals, rooming and preparing the patient for the physicians. She closely assisted the physician and worked on the application and fitting of durable medical equipment.

From 2018-19 she spent the year working at Windsor Manor Assisted Living as a Life Enrichment Coordinator in Indianola, Iowa and from 2016-17 she was an Orthopedic Technician at APOS Adult and Pediatric Orthopedic Specialists in Irvine, Calif.

From 2006-16, Nachtigal was an Orthopedic Technician Supervisor for the University of New Mexico Health Science Center and Carrie Tingley Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M. There she managed the day-to-day operations of the Orthopedic Technology team, including casting, splinting, wound care, application and fitting and managed the appropriate staff scheduling. She conducted staff meetings, attended manager and management meetings and training and developed training manuals and handouts for patients and families.

Nachtigal is certified through the National Board (OTC), Advanced casting practical exam (Master Caster), Registered Orthopedic Technician (ROT), and is CPR/AED certified. She was a part of the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists from 2013-19, a Red Cross Volunteer for Hurricane Irma in Fort Meyers, Fla. in 2017 and volunteered with a pediatric orthopedic team in Guayaquil, Ecuador and a medical mission at Roberto Gilbert Hospital para Los Niños from 2004-06 and again in 2011.
