ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Nanook cross country teams competed head-to-head against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves one last time on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. The women's team grabbed their second-consecutive head-to-head win over UAA, winning 23-32. In the men's race, the Nanooks fell to UAA, 38-18.
Saturday began with light rain and clouds in the sky, however, the rain left just in time for the women's 6k to start the day. The Nanooks women's team cruised to take the top-two positions, once again. This week,
Naomi Bailey and
Rosie Fordham took the top-spots as Bailey posted a 6k time of 22:37.8 and Fordham followed with a 23:22.2. UAA grabbed the third-place finish as
Delainey Zock finished in fourth with a time of 25:04.8. Following behind in sixth-place was
Rya Berrigan who posted a time of 26:08.3.
Aila Berrigan joined her sister at the finish-line with a time of 29:01.6 in her first race as a Nanook. The Nanooks scoring was 1-2-4-6-10.
The men's 8k race followed soon after the women's race finished. The Nanooks had another strong showing from
Mike Ophoff as he pushed himself to a top-three finish and 26:42.2 time.
Zephan Ozturgut was the next Nanook to finish, grabbing seventh-place with a time of 29:34.2. Just behind was
Nolan Earnest in eighth with a time of 29:56.6.
Koen Ross and
Jack Cater rounded-out the finishes for Alaska as Ross placed ninth with a time of 30:02.3 and Cater finished 11th with a time of 31:21.6.
The Nanooks have almost three weeks off until their next meet which comes on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Mike Johnson Classic at Western Oregon University.
