The Nanooks and Seawolves met a weekend ago at the UAF Trail system for the annual Blue/Gold Meet. Alaska sparked a historical result as the women's team knocked-off UAA in a head-to-head style meet for the first time in program history. Kendall Kramer, the eventual GNAC Women's XC Athlete of the Week, won the 5k race with a time of 18:34. Close behind, also in her first collegiate race was Rosie Fordham. She finished in second with a time of 18:41. The third-place finisher was also a Nanook, and another freshman, Naomi Bailey, finishing with a time of 19:21. Delainey Zock and Mariel Pulles finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

On the men's side, the Nanooks pushed for third and fourth at best. Joe Davies, a freshman, picked-up his first top-three finish in his first collegiate race with a time of 23:23 in the men's 7k race. Mike Ophoff followed closely behind in fourth-place with a time of 23:34. Zephan Ozturgut took home eighth, Koen Ross placed ninth, Nolan Earnest grabbed 11th and Jack Cater grabbed 12th

Park Conditions
The Nanooks and Seawolves are set to run at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. It looks like the course conditions will be wet with some slight wind. 60 degree forecasts for Saturday, Sept. 4.

Alaska's Team
With their impressive starts to the season, the Nanooks women's cross country team and women's cross country member, Kendall Kramer, took home this week's GNAC Women's XC Athlete of the Week and GNAC Team of the Week awards. Kramer took home the individual award after her first career-event. She sat out the 2020 (2021) spring season due to COVID-19, only participating in ski as a freshman.

The team was rewarded for their impressive and historical victory over the Seawolves on Saturday, August 28. The Nanooks, picked ninth in the GNAC Preseason Polls, defeated the Preseason #3 with ease, outscoring them 17-38 and also taking the top-three finishing positions. The Nanooks have not finished above eighth-place in the GNAC in nearly a decade, proving that a bright future may be on the horizon for Fairbanks.
