Nordic Ski Ready to Compete at NCAA Skiing Championships

JACKSON, New Hampshire – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team is ready to go in New Hampshire for the NCAA Skiing Championships. Nordic events begin on March 11 and wrap-up on March 13.

 Last Time Out
The Nanooks are racing after their showing at the RMISA Championships and NCAA Qualifiers in Midway, Utah at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center on Feb. 26-27. On day one Mariel Pulles landed on the podium with a third place finish in the the 5k classic race. Kendall Kramer finished just behind, picking-up a 10th place finish. Catherine Reed-Metayer, the final women's qualifier finished 22nd overall.

On the men's side of day one, the two qualifiers, Mike Ophoff and Christopher Kalev finished with a fourth place finish and 10th overall finish. The men participated in a 10k classic race. On day two, the men's team raced in a 20k freestyle. Kalev led the way for Alaska this race, grabbing an eighth place finish. Ophoff finished in 16th place.

The women's qualifiers ended with a Mariel Pulles fourth place finish in the 15k freestyle while Kendall Kramer ended the qualifier with a sixth place finish.

Pre-Race Rankings
Christopher Kalev ranks 11th in the 10k classic and 23rd in the 20k freestyle. Mike Ophoff checks-in at 16th in the 10k classic and 12th in the 20k freestyle. Lukash Platil and Logan Mowry have been named men's alternates for the NCAA Skiing Championships. In the women's race, Mariel Pulles enters the races as the eighth seed in the 5k classic and 12th in the 15k freestyle. Kendall Kramer comes in at 17th in the 5k and 13th in the 15k. Finally, Catherine Reed-Metayer checks-in at 27th and 30th in the 5k and 15k.

Rya Berrigan and Sage Robine check-in as the two alternates for the Alaska Nanooks women's Nordic ski team.

Course Details
The weather this weekend is supposed to be windy but clear. Tomorrow for the first race, the forecast is calling for a high of 57 degrees with wind. On Saturday, the 'Nooks can expect a cold-front with a high of 30 degrees with continued wind.
