ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Nanooks ski team won their first Alaska Nordic Cup since the 2016-17 season. They were led by wins in both the men's and women's races.
In the women's 10k freestyle mass start, the Nanooks were led by
Kendall Kramer, who posted a time of 31:33, taking home the first-place finish. Karly Coyne of UAA took second.
Rosie Fordham moved up one spot from her Friday finish of fourth, and took third on day two, posting a time of 34:03.
Rya Berrigan found a fifth-place finish,
Sarah Olson took home seventh and
Aila Berrigan took eighth. The Nanooks women's team ended day two with a 1:41 minute advantage over UAA.
On the men's side, the Nanooks were led by 1-2 finishes from
Joe Davies and
Mike Ophoff. Davies picked up his first career win, posting a time of 48:08 in the men's 15k freestyle mass start. Ophoff followed closely behind, a day after his own win, posting a time of 48:27. UAA placed third, fourth and fifth before
Christopher Kalev ended the scoring for the Nanook men. He took sixth with a time of 50:27.
Lukash Platil,
Patrick Marbacher and
Max Beiergrohslein rounded out the finishers for Alaska with eighth, ninth and 10th.
This win over UAA ends the drought of three-consecutive Seawolf wins. Alaska adds to their All-Time Series record, making it 10-6-1 in favor of the 'Nooks.
Alaska will return to action on Jan. 2, 2022 when they head to the Salt Lake City for the Utah Utes Invitational.
