Mylymok's Third Period Goal Secures 3-2 Win Over RPI

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team used a late-third period goal to pick up a 3-2 win over RPI on Tuesday, Dec. 14. With the win, the Nanooks move to 3-12-0 on the season and ride a two-game winning-streak into the series finale tomorrow, Dec. 15.

It was a loud first period as the Nanooks grabbed an early 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Zach Dubinsky of RPI opened the scoring, giving the Engineers an early 1-0 lead 8:47 into the opener. Ryan Mahshi and Jakub Lacka were awarded the assists for Rensselaer. It took nearly nine minutes, but the Nanooks found their equalizer. Chase Dubois, right in front of the net connected on the puck after Arvils Bergmanis put a shot on net. Dubois found the redirect and made it a 1-1 ballgame giving Bergmanis and Jordan Muzzillo assists. It took only 1:12 for the Nanooks to strike again, this time in the form of Brady Risk. Risk found himself in the way of a Filip Fornaa Svensson shot, blocking his teammate, but he recovered and from the slot, beat RPI's Marshall to his glove side to give the Nanooks the 2-1 lead.

They'd take the advantage into the second period before the Engineers knotted the game up at 2-2. Justin Addamo was the scorer for RPI as Jake Johnson intercepted a Nanooks pass, got it to Ryan Mahshie, who then hit a streaking Addamo for the Engineer breakaway, resulting in RPI's equalizer. This came 14:35 into the middle stanza.

The race to three was on and it was Alaska who would answer the final call. Late into the third, Connor Mylymok played a puck from Colin Doyle behind the RPI net before brining it to the glove-side of Linden Marshall. With a quick wrist-shot, Mylymok found enough daylight and snuck the puck into the back of the net for the game-winner with 5:23 left in regulation for his first-career goal in the blue and gold.

This win gave Alaska two-straight and they'll wrap-up their 2021 home-schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 7:07 p.m. against RPI one last time.
