FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team wrapped-up their 2021 home-schedule with a 4-1 win over the RPI Engineers at the Carlson Center on Dec. 15, 2021.
Alaska opened up the scoring 14:45 into the opening period as
Garrett Pyke scored his third goal of the season off of assists from
Anton Rubtsov and
Antti Virtanen. Pyke took the puck from the point and snuck it by Linden Marshall, the RPI netminder, giving the Nanooks an early lead. Alaska took the 1-0 lead into the break. The Engineers tied things up 10:03 into the middle stanza after Justin Addamo took a pass from Shane Sellar and Jakob Lee and scored the equalizer.
Only 1:40 later, the Nanooks regained the lead as
Chase Dubois scored the game-winning goal 11:43 into the second as he found a loose puck, just outside the RPI crease, and slotted the game-winner home.
Harrison Israels and Rubtsov were awarded the assists. The Nanooks took a 2-1 lead into the third, and that was all they needed, however, 11:46 into the final period,
Colin Doyle scored his first-career goal, a wrap-around on Marshall's blocker-side, making it 3-1, giving the Nanooks late-insurance.
Didrik Henbrant would finish the job for Alaska, taking a
Brady Risk face-off win coast-to-coast, scoring his fourth goal of the season on the empty-net opportunity.
Gustavs Davis Grigals ended the night in net with 31 total saves, moving his save percentage to .907 on the season and dropping his goals allowed average to 2.55.
This win moves the Nanooks to 4-12-0 on the season and gives them a three-game winning-streak heading into the holiday break.
Alaska will hit the road for stops at Denver, Maine and Minnesota to open up the new year. They'll be back on home-ice in February.
