ANCHORAGE – The Nanooks men's basketball team fell to the Quincy Hawks on Sunday, Nov. 28. Quincy escaped with the win, 83-76, using a 46-38 halftime lead to their advantage. This drops the Nanooks to 3-3, 0-0 GNAC.
Quincy used a sharp-shooting first-half to jump ahead by eight heading into the locker room. The Nanooks were outshot from the field, 46.67% to 61.54%. The difference maker was Quincy going 7-9 from deep for a 77.78 shooting percentage in the opening 20 minutes. Out of the break, the Nanooks made their first run. They opened on a 14-6 run and string of 10-0 to open the second period, making it 52-52.
Quincy connected from deep, making it 55-52, retaking the lead. After making the Nanooks' deficit seven, Alaska made another run, grabbing the lead back at 64-63 on a
Shadeed Shabazz fastbreak following a
Koby Huerta steal. The two teams traded leads until a 70-70 tie, the last for Alaska. The Hawks went on to stretch their lead to 80-74 and eventually grabbed the win 83-76.
Alaska was led by
Shadeed Shabazz, who in the loss, dropped 37 points on 15-27 shooting and four three-pointers. He added six assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Abdullahi Mohamed had his best offensive game of the year, scoring 18 on 8-13 from the field and five rebounds and three steals. No other Nanook scored more than six.

Coleman Sparling were named to the Seawolf Thanksgiving Classic's All-Tournament Team following their performances on both days.
The Nanooks open GNAC play next weekend at Saint Martin's and Western Oregon.
