MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team was handed their first confernece-loss of the season at Western Oregon University on Thursday, Dec. 2. This loss drops the Nanooks to 3-4, 0-1 GNAC.
The Nanooks looked to be off-and-running in the opening four minutes. After that, it was all Western Oregon. Alaska held a quick 9-3 lead but that was quickly erased and Western Oregon took off from there. After their lead, a Western Oregon three-pointer followed by a fastbreak bucket tied it at 13-13, the last tie of the game. WOU quickly made it 26-15, forcing a timeout out of Alaska. Out of the break, the Nanooks pulled within five on a
Koby Huerta three, but after, that was all she wrote. The Wolves went out by 17 at one point and took a 15 point lead into the locker room.Â
The closest the Nanooks got to Western Oregon in the second half was 13, coming on a layup from
Willie Thomas. Western Oregon's lead grew to 30 and eventually ended in a 99-74 win over Alaska.Â
Alaska was led by 22 from
Koby Huerta as the senior guard made five three-pointers, grabbed six rebounds, posted three assists and picked up one steal.
Mawich Kachjaani and
Willie Thomas posted 16 points each. Thomas also had six rebounds.Â
The Nanooks are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Saint Martin's.
