ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team heads to Anchorage for a two-game weekend with Hawaii Hilo and Quincy University.
Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of a 2-0 record at the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge at Sonoma State. On night one, they knocked-off the host-school, the Sonoma State Seawolves, on night one 85-79 before taking an OT win from Cal State East Bay thanks to 40 points, 10 rebounds and five steals and a last-second half-court shot from
Quin Barnard, tying the game to force the extra period.
Stats
Shadeed Shabazz leads the way through four games for the Nanooks. The 2019-20 All-American has posted 18.3 points per game, including a 40-point performance, his fifth of his career, in the Nanooks win over Cal State East Bay.
Quin Barnard checks in second, averaging 15.5 through his first four games with the Nanooks after spending his undergrad with the University of Washington.
Koby Huerta and
Coleman Sparling are the final Nanooks in double-digit scoring. Huerta is averaging 13.3 points per game and Sparling is running at 10.0 points per game.
Sparling is leading the way for Alaska on the rebounding side of the ball, averaging 6.3 boards per game.
Abdullahi Mohamed comes in next with an average of 5.3 per game. Shabazz is the lone-Nanook in double-digit steals with 15 on the season.
Player of the Week
Shadeed Shabazz earned his fourth-career GNAC Player of the Week honor after his performance in California a week ago.
What's Ahead
After this weekend, the Nanooks will officially be heading into conference-play. They'll open their GNAC schedule at Western Oregon and Saint Martin's on Dec. 2 and Dec. 4. Following their openers, the Nanooks will play Portland Bible College on Dec. 18 in their home-opener.
