FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team fell to the Omaha Mavericks on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Carlson Center. This loss drops the Nanooks to 1-8-0.
Omaha got the scoring started in the first period as Tyler Weiss made it 1-0 Mavs 14:14 into the opening-period. Jack Randl and Joey Abate were credited with the assists. The Nanooks finally gained some power-play momentum after entering the game with special teams' conversions. In the second period,
Chase Dubois tied it at 1-1, scoring his first-career goal and point after taking a cross-ice pass from
Filip Fornaa Svensson. Garret Pyke picked up the second assist.
Pyke earned another assist on the next goal. Fornaa Svensson gave the 'Nooks the lead 17:48 into the second, the second power-play goal for the Nanooks on the night.
Brady Risk picked up his fifth point of the season with the second assist on the goal. Alaska took a 2-1 lead into the third. Unfortunately, four unanswered goals from Omaha in the third spelled the end for the Nanooks.
Cameron Berg capitalized on an Omaha power play, tying the game 4:32 into the third. Abate found the back of the net 9:06 into the third giving the Mavericks the lead over Alaska. Ty Mueller and Berg found the back of the net 13:27 and 19:25 into the third, giving Omaha the 2-5 win over the Nanooks.
The same two are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:07 p.m. in the Carlson Center.
