@NanooksHockey's Newton Named an AHCA All-American Scholar

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. –
On Tuesday, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) released their 2019-20 NCAA Division I Krampade All-American Scholars, with incoming senior forward Max Newton being the lone representative from the Alaska Nanooks hockey team.

UAF T& I Hockey and Volleyball headshotsNewton, the team captain for the upcoming 2020-21 season, earns his third-straight AHCA All-American Scholar honor on Tuesday. The Vancouver, B.C. native is one of 53 honorees from the men's league of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

To be eligible for the selection, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40 percent of their school's contests throughout the 2019-20 season. A small number of participation waivers are granted to players with injuries or back-up goaltenders.

Newton was one of four Nanooks who appeared in all 36 games last season, earning nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points. Newton's point production ranked him second in scoring on Alaska last season, while picking up four goals on the man advantage. Heading into his senior season, Newton has appeared in 93 games, producing 43 career points with 18 goals and 25 assists.
