FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team had eight members recognized by the All-Academic Intercollegiate Ski Team Award. On Friday, April 3, the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association announced 291 recipients of the annual awards.
Two skiers from the men's Nanooks team were named.
Karl Danielson, a sophomore from Kenai, Alaska who is studying fire science and homeland security and
Tristan Sayre, a Fairbanks-native who is studying civil engineering.
The other six awards were given to
Rya Berrigan of Palmer, Alaska, Hannah Deuling of Whitehorse, Yukon,
Anja Maijala of Wrenshall, Minn.,
Sarah Olson of Blaine, Minn.,
Catherine Reed-Metayer of St. Ferreol Les Neiges, Quebec and finally,
Sage Robine of Rossland, B.C.
To qualify for the team, skiers must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and participate in one of the three NCAA Regional Championships. This year's recipients came from 27 teams in all three regions of the United States. In the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association, a total of 152 student-athletes were honored from 14 institutions. In the Central, a total of 47 student-athletes were honored
from five teams and in the RMISA, a total of 92 student-athletes were honored from eight different schools.
