FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Nanooks hockey team nabbed themselves two weekly athletic awards in the WCHA. Junior forward, Steven Jandric was named the WCHA Forward of the Week, while freshman defenseman, Roberts Kalkis was named Defenseman of the Week, his first career weekly award.
 
Jandric grabbed his second WCHA Weekly honor of the season after his big performance this past weekend. He led the WCHA and was tied for second in the nation for scoring over the weekend, picking up three goals and two assists for five points in two games against rivals, Alaska Anchorage. Jandric grabbed the game-winning goal against UAA in game one on Friday, Feb. 28, on his way to his first career hat-trick and a 5-2 win. Jandric returned on night two and picked up two assists in the 'Nooks 6-1 win, extending his point-streak to 11 games. 
 
Kalkis picked up his first career weekly award after leading all defenders and ranking second in WCHA rookies in points, with three points against the Seawolves. All three points were grabbed in Saturday's 6-1 victory as the rookie scored his first two career goals and picked up an assist, giving him his first career multi-point game as well. Kalkis led all WCHA rookies and defensemen in goals and goals per games played. 
 
The Nanooks are back in action on Friday, March 6 when they host Bowling Green for the opening game of the 2020 WCHA Quarterfinals. The Falcons and Nanooks will play on Friday, Mar. 6-7 with a potential third game on Sunday, Mar. 8.
