EL PASO, Texas – The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's rifle team will be in El Paso, Texas this weekend to compete at the NCAA Qualifiers, hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso. This will be the final match for the 'Nooks as the team attempts to climb the ranks into the top eight and individuals get one more shot at qualifying.
Last Time Out
The Nanooks shot at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships last weekend in Fort Worth, Texas after facing-off with Air Force to close out the regular season. On Friday, Feb. 14, the 'Nooks and Falcons shot to a 4622-4666 final score. The Air Force Academy came out on top but
Kellen McAferty,
Grace Nelson and
Jessica Boyce were the top three for Alaska, shooting 1159, 1158 and 1155 respectively.
After falling in their final regular season match, the Nanooks then shot in the conference championships. McAferty led the way on day one in smallbore and air rifle with 581's in both categories. On day two, McAferty put up another 581 in smallbore, leading the Nanooks.
Grace Nelson was the top shooter in air rifle on day two, putting up a 588. Boyce added a 587 and
Haley Castillo and
Amy Gentry both followed with a pair of 584 scores.
Qualifier Shooters
The list of shooters will be the same as last weekend in Fort Worth.

Amy Gentry,
Kellen McAferty,
Grace Nelson and
Cassidy Wilson will be the six shooters for Alaska this weekend in El Paso.
