FT. WORTH, Texas – The Alaska Nanook coed rifle team completed their last day of the 2020 Patriot Rifle Conference hosted by Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX Sunday morning (Feb 16), placing fourth in air rifle with a score of 2343. Combined with Saturday's smallbore score of 2296, the Nanooks closed out the PRC Championships in fourth place with a team aggregate of 4639.
The TCU Horned Frogs claimed the PRC Championships title with a team score of 4728. They were followed by the Air Force Falcons (4681), the Ohio State Buckeyes (4669), the Alaska Nanooks, and the UTEP Miners (4583).
"TCU hosted a good match and it was fun competing with all the teams over the past two days." Commented Head Coach,
Layne Lewis, "Now we are going to train this week here in TX and prepare for our next match in El Paso on Saturday."
In Saturday's smallbore competition, the Nanooks had two shooters rank in the top 20. Sophomore,
Kellen McAferty, recorded an impressive 581, placing him sixth in the qualification match. Junior,
Jessica Boyce, shot a 575 placing her nineteenth overall.
At the conclusion of the event, McAferty was named to the PRC All-Conference Smallbore Team and claimed second in the final.
In Sunday's air rifle event, the Nanooks claimed fourth with a team score of 2349. The TCU Horned Frogs (2388), the Air Force Falcons (2367), and the Ohio State Buckeyes (2359) claimed first through third, respectively.
Senior,
Grace Nelson, led the Nanooks in the air rifle competition with a 588, placing her nineteenth overall. Boyce was one point behind, firing a 587 and claiming twentieth.
The Nanooks will be back in action next Saturday, February 22, in El Paso, Texas to compete in the NCAA qualifying match hosted by UTEP.
