FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team grabbed two WCHA points, tying the Bowling Green Falcons before snagging the second point in 3v3 overtime. With this tie, the Nanooks are now 14-13-4, 12-9-4-2 WCHA as we near the end of the season. 
 
In the first period, the Falcons struck first, scoring two goals. The first of the two came from their top-scorer, Alec Rauhauser. Rauhauser took the puck from Adam Conquest and T.J. Lloyd before skating right in front of the net and putting a backhand past Gustavs Grigals in net. This goal came 8:41 into the opening period. BGSU struck again just before the end of the first period, this time it was Brandon Kruse. Kruse took a pass across the crease and beat Grigals. 
 
Despite the two-goal deficit, the Nanooks made their comeback evident midway through the second period. Chris Jandric started the breakaway for the 'Nooks with a long pass up ice, catching the Falcons on a line-shift. After hitting his brother near the attacking blue-line, Steven Jandric entered the zone and hit Colton Leiter on the two-on-one. Leiter lit the lamp, putting the 'Nooks on the board and cutting the lead in half. 
 
Nearly a full period would go buy, but the 'Nooks offense felt another goal was close. 9:52 into the third period, that goal came. After Max Newton played the puck to Steven Jandric, he found his brother, Chris, just inside the blue-line for a one-timer. The sophomore defenseman put a rocket by Eric Dop, the BGSU goalie, pinging the post while grabbing the goal. That goal came after the Falcons lost Evan Dougherty to a checking from behind – game misconduct penalty, putting the Alaska squad on a five-minute power play. 
 
After tying it up late, the Nanooks and Falcons went to overtime tied at 2-2. Despite two penalties and a power play to both teams, nobody answered, resulting in a tie for the night. Thanks to WCHA rules, there was still 3v3 overtime to be played. Midway through the deciding period, Kylar Hope called game, escaping a scrum against the wall with the puck and firing the game-winner high on Dop. While the 'Nooks only grab two points for the tie and 3v3 OT win, it still keeps them in the hunt for home-ice in WCHA standings.
 
BGSU and Alaska return to action tomorrow at the Carlson Center for a 7:07 p.m. AKT puck-drop.
