HOUGHTON, Mich. – Only three Nanooks racers competed on the third day of the U.S. National Ski Championships on Sunday, Jan. 5.
Mike Ophoff and Lukas Platil both competed in the 30km men's classic while
Sarah Olson competed in the girls 7.5km classic.
In the men's 30km classic mass start, Ophoff pulled away with the best finish of the Alaska men. While competing in the men's U23 category he grabbed a 12
th place finish and a 30
th overall finish after a time of 1:22:57.2. Platil followed closely, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:24:50.8. This time was good enough for a 39
th overall finish and a 21
st place finish in the men's senior category.
Sarah Olson was the lone female racer today representing Alaska in the 7.5km girls classic. Olson put up a race-time of 27:30.2, finishing 52
nd overall and 25
th in the female U20 category.
The U.S. National Championships wrap up on Tuesday, Jan. 7 with the classic sprint race.
